چکیده

tea (camellia sinensis) is one of the most economically important crops and is considered tobe the national drink of iran. although there has been an intensive cytogenetic study of tea in differentregions of the world, there has been no report from iran. therefore, the present investigation was carriedout in order to present the basic cytogenetical features of various tea cultivators grown in the country.the meiotic analysis of the tea cultivators studied showed variation in the prophase sub-stage of meiosis-i, due to the occurrence of a synezetic knot and post pachytene diffuse sub-stage. all tea cultivatorsstudied were diploid, with the chromosome number n=15. although the major feature of chromosomeassociation was bivalent formation, quadrivalents were formed in the cultivator 3013, possibly due tostructural hybridity. the anova test showed the presence of a significant difference among thecultivators for terminal, intercalary and total chiasmata, as well as ring bivalents indicating their genomicdifferences. cluster analysis and pca ordination of cultivators which are based on meioticcharacteristics, group those cultivators which show cytogenetic similarities.

Biochemical characterization and pharmacognostic evaluation of purified catechins in green tea (Camellia sinensis) cultivars of India

Green tea (GT) is derived from the leaves of Camellia sinensis implicated in a wide range of health attributes. In the present comprehensive study, methanolic, acetone and aqueous extract of leaves of C. sinensis var. sinensis [Kashmir (KW), Uttarakhand (IP & PN)] and C. sinensis var. assamica (Assam, AT) were explored for their phytoconstituents. Solvent extracts of GT cultivars showed rich pr...

Study on the antioxidant activity of tea flowers (Camellia sinensis).

Major chemical compounds in different extracts from tea flowers (Camellia sinensis) were analyzed. Distilled water or 70% ethanol extracts were then fractionated with chloroform, ethyl acetate and n-butanol, respectively. Each extract fraction was tested its scavenging activities on 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and hydroxyl free radicals. The results showed that ethyl acetate fraction o...

Occurrence of 15 + 1 EU priority polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) in various types of tea (Camellia sinensis) and herbal infusions.

For the analysis of 15 + 1 EU priority PAH in tea and herbal infusions, an online-SPE-LVI-GC-MS method was developed. This method includes sample extraction of the tea and herbal infusions with saponification followed by an automated SPE clean-up step. For brews a liquid-liquid extraction with cyclohexane was performed before an automated SPE clean-up. Gas chromatographic separation was done us...

Changes in Antioxidative Responses to Low Temperature in Tea[Camellia sinensis (L) O. Kuntze] Cultivars

Effect of low temperature stress treatment in five selected clones of Camellia sinensis (T-17, TV-19, TV-25, TV-29, TV-30) was found to be significant. Guaiacol Peroxidase (GPX) decreased with decreasing temperature. PPO decreased with decreasing temperature showing highest activities at 20°C in all clones. CAT activit ies decreased in T-17, TV29, and TV-30 with decrease in temperature with exc...
